Jones will still give his all: Kemp

28 April 2005

The New Zealand Warriors' coach says there are no questions about departing halfback Stacey Jones' commitment to the team for the rest of the National Rugby League season.

Jones announced last week he would be leaving Auckland at the end of the year after a decade with the club to play for French team UTC in England's Super League.

There has been much speculation in the New Zealand media over the reasons for Jones' departure a year before the expiration of his contract.

Warriors coach Tony Kemp today said the star player would continue to give his all for the team in the time he had left.

"This shouldn't be about why he's made his decision, it should be about respecting it," Kemp said.

"He knows what he's here for ... he wants this club to be successful this year.

"I have no doubt that he's going to give 100 per cent in every game that he goes out to play in and hopefully he'll get what he wants at the end of it."

Kemp said Jones was back to his best form this season and that would not change now his future was decided.

"Let's put that one to rest - Stacey has - he wants to get on and play footy as does the rest of the team."

The Warriors coach also said injured captain Steve Price was expected to play against Penrith in Auckland on Sunday.

Price has a grade one hamstring injury suffered when playing for Australia against New Zealand in last weekend's Test.

"I suppose with Steve carrying an injury we do need cover but like I said the blokes that are doing the job are doing a magnificent job for us off the bench," Kemp said.

He said Price again combining with Ruben Wiki, who returns to NRL competition after a four-game suspension, gave the Warriors the best platform in the league
