DRAGONS PREPARE FOR FROSTY RECEPTIONS

Newcomers Catalans Dragons are bucking the trend of established Super League clubs by spending their final week of pre-season acclimatising to an English winter.
While 10 of the 12 Super League clubs have recently returned from warm-weather training camps in France and Spain, the Perpignan outfit are this week training in freezing temperatures in Manchester and staging reconnaissance trips ahead of the start of their campaign now just over a week away.
"It's about getting players used to the surroundings," said chief executive Grant Mayer. "We're probably going to be in the UK 15 times this year and it's important we get used to the travel, the hotels and the food."
Captain Stacey Jones said: "It's a bit cold but this is just what we needed, to get together and do a bit of bonding leading into our first game."
The Dragons have suffered defeats in both their pre-season friendlies, one of them a nine-try thrashing by Harlequins, but Jones insists they will be ready to take on Wigan at Stade Aime Giral on Saturday week.
"It would have been great to have done better and won those games to get some confidence going in, but we know where we're going and where we need to get to," he said.
"We've got a lot of work to do. We're going to put a good team into the competition and it's going to improve each week."
The only absentee from the Dragons squad was Australian forward Ian Hindmarsh, who has stayed behind in the south of France to be with his pregnant wife.
Off the field, the Catalans are confident that the foundations are being laid to ensure that the latest French venture succeeds where Paris St Germain failed.
The club have unveiled a sponsorship deal with bmibaby, who will start up daily direct flights from Manchester to Perpignan in March and expect to transport up to 2,000 fans a fortnight to the south of France.
The Dragons also say interest is building for the Wigan game and they plan to announce a pay-per-view television deal for their entire home programme next week.
"Season ticket sales are touching 1,000 which for us is almost 100 per cent up on the UTC days and we have pre-match sales of between 3,500 and 4,000 for the Wigan game, which keeps us on target for a crowd of between 8,000 to 10,000," added Mayer.
Meanwhile, director of football David Waite has drawn up a shortlist of candidates for the vacant coaching position and the club intend to carry out interviews later this week.
Waite and caretaker coaches Paul Donkin and Matt Adamson plan to watch their opening-day opponents in action in the Kris Radlinski testimonial match between Wigan and Huddersfield on Thursday
